Port Vale 1-0 Rochdale
Port Vale's rise, and undoubted improvement, under Rob Page continued as a win over Rochdale on Saturday afternoon moved us up to the dizzy heights of midtable.
The 1-0 win over Rochdale, which saw them drop out of the play-off places in league 1, was secured by an unlikely source at Vale Park!
Rochdale started the game positively, and were in charge, but it was Colin Daniel that should have put us into an early lead. Eight-yards out, as the ball dropped nicely for him, it seemed certain that he would score but a fine reflex save from Conrad Logan prevented this.
Jamie Allen did force Chris Neal into a fingers tip save, but the Vale 'keeper was always comfortable with this.
Neal was tested more by Allen in the second half with his volley forcing him into a more telling save.
Michael Brown (64) is more familiar with a role helping the defence, this is how he spent much of the afternoon in his defensive midfield role, but it was a rare foray forward from the veteran that saw him fire us ahead.
A clearance feel to Brown who unleashed an effort into the top corner beyond Logan.
Ben Williamson, who had just come off the bench, should have secured the point when he got onto the end of a short Scott Tanser backpass but having gone around Logan he could only roll his effort wide, one-nil was enough though.
