Crewe Alexandra 2-1 Port Vale
Port Vale slumped to a disappointing derby defeat at the weekend, our fourth successive league 1 defeat following an impressive run to begin the season.
Crewe Alexandra secured their first points of the 2014/15 season when they overcame us 2-1 at Gresty Road on Saturday afternoon.
The home side were soon ahead when a Marcus Haber flick on from a freekick allowed George Ray (6) to score from close range and get Crewe off to the kind of start they would have hoped for.
If that was hoped for then a second goal, inside 20-minutes, was stuff of dreams when Vadaine Oliver (19) headed passed Chris Neal to make it two-nil.
Just past the half hour a penalty came our way when Ray pulled back Jordan Slew, and he stepped up himself. Slew (32) saw his first effort saved by 'keeper Ben Garratt but tucked away the rebound to gives us hope before the break.
Had it not been for Garratt then Tom Pope would have headed us level but the Crewe 'keeper tipped his effort over the bar to give them a two-one win and move them to within two-points of Vale, who drop to 22nd.
After the game Vale boss, who is looking to move players in and out, Micky Adams told BBC Radio Stoke: 'If certain areas of the team are letting us down then we will have to think of ways to improve it.
'That could either be trying to move some players on and get some more in. We have to say that, if we are not happy with what the players are producing then we can't just go with it and keep going with it. We have to do something about it.
'So we could look at ways of moving people on if we can and opening up some sort of space in the budget for other players to come in.'
