Winger Departs Vale

The Valiants have been dealt a blow with the news that winger Jennison Myrie-Williams has turned down the offer of a new contract in favour of a switch to Scunthorpe United.

If Myrie-Williams` departure doesn`t come as a huge surprise, his destination certainly does. In what has been a largely nomadic career, the winger has enjoyed the best spell of his career in the Potteries. After initially joining on loan from Stevenage, Myrie-Williams signed a permanent deal the following season, going on to score 21 times in the process, including 10 last season. It could be argued that the move is a short sighted one, though it can only be imagined that the 26 year old has been well recompensed.

With captain Doug Loft leaving for Gillingham and Billy Knott choosing a switch to Bradford City over a permanent move to Vale, boss Micky Adams has more work than he would have wanted in restructuring his midfield. The Valiants have lost a large chunk of goals from that area of the pitch, which must be of some concern.

There has been speculation that Byron Moore may be making the move from Crewe Alexandra to replace Myrie-Williams. Moore has rejected the offer of a 12 month contract at Gresty Road and could well be on his way to ST6.

Vale are still awaiting answers from Richard Duffy, Joe Davis, Ryan Lloyd and Jordan Hugill. Hugill, in particular, is believed to be attracting interest from elsewhere. Whether a move so early into his fledgling career is the best thing remains to be seen. Dave Hibbert anyone?

Chairman Norman Smurthwaite has hinted that several new arrivals are imminent with an experienced defender believed to be top of Adams` shopping list.
