Adams Content After Friendly Wins
The Valiants rounded off their preparations for the new season with a brace of wins over the weekend.
Micky Adams split the squad in order to give as many of his first team squad a run out ahead of Saturday`s opener against Brentford. The 2-0 win at Alfreton, courtesy of goals from Chris Robertson and Lee Hughes, may have given a few clues. A midfield four of Jennison Myrie-Williams, Anthony Griffith, Chris Lines and Doug Loft may well be the one that Adams opts for against Uwe Rosler`s men. New signing Carl Dickinson featured at both left back and centre half, while Richard Duffy also got a run out in the middle of the defence during the first half.
Meanwhile at Leek, Vale`s likely front pairing of Tom Pope and Gavin Tomlin continued their impressive form and partnership as they shared all five goals in a 5-2 win, Tomlin hitting a first half hat trick.
The return from injury of Loft, Duffy and Yates came as a boost to Adams who believes he now is clearer in his own mind about his starting eleven for next week. The Vale boss told The Sentinel "I'm now much clearer in my own mind about what I'm going to do and how I want to play.
"We still need to get everyone fit because Dan Jones is still not quite right, but he's not far away."
A few of those still short of fitness will feature with the development squad against Stafford Rangers tomorrow.
