Striker Signs

Micky Adams has added to his already abundant attacking options by completing the signing of Southend United forward Gavin Tomlin.

The 29 year old was the Shrimpers top scorer last season with 16 goals and attracted interest from several League One clubs during the January transfer window. With Tom Pope, Lee Hughes, Louis Dodds, Ben Williamson and possibly Liam Dickinson to follow, Adams certainly won`t be lacking the options next season.

Tomlin enjoyed a successful spell with Torquay United during their run to the play-off final a couple of seasons ago and has also has recent spells with Gillingham and Dagenham & Redbridge. It is a matter for speculation whether Adams has a change of system in mind, but the London born forward does offer some versatility with the ability to play either on the left or right of midfield, in a front three and as an attacking midfielder as well as his preferred striking role.

Tomlin told the Official Site "The manager showed a massive interest in me, I was always told by friends and fellow experienced professionals that you have to go where you are wanted.

"Getting promoted, you`ve done really well last season, it`s a good team and you`ve got some really exciting players so it`s a pleasure to be here."

The Vale boss is still in the hunt for further additions. Following the loss of Ryan Burge, Sam Morsy, Kingsley James and with captain Doug Loft still yet to decide on his future, the midfield area is the main area of concern at present.
