Vale Handed Walsall Tie

The Valiants have been handed a home draw with fellow League One side Walsall in the Capital One Cup first round, with the tie set to be played on Tuesday August 6th.

Vale made the short trip down the M6 last season to defeat the Saddlers in the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy and will be hoping for a similar outcome, and a decent attendance to boot. Dean Smith`s side were one of the surprise packages of League One last season. Operating on a shoe string budget, Walsall came close to securing a play-off spot before running out of steam towards the back end of the campaign.

Vale Assistant Manager Mark Grew told the Official Site that he was pleased with the draw. "It`s a great draw, we are at home and it is a bit of a local derby so we couldn`t have asked for a better draw really.

"It is definitely a winnable tie, we knocked them out of the Johnstone Paint Trophy last season on penalties so hopefully we can do something similar this time."

Supporters will be eagerly awaiting the release of next season`s fixtures on Wednesday morning, with the prospect of some eye-catching local clashes looming.
