Vale coach Robert Page has emerged as the surprise front runner for the vacant managerial post at Sheffield United.

The Welshman is believed to be one of two candidates to take over at Bramall Lane. The 38 year old was shortlisted for the AFC Wimbledon job last season before missing out to Neal Ardley and the former Watford defender has been widely praised for his work in helping the Valiants secure promotion. It would appear a big challenge as a first job in management with the Blades set to massively cut their wage bill following their failure to gain promotion back to the Championship.
