Former Chairman Bell Passes Away

Former Vale Chairman Bill Bell has sadly passed away at the age of 81. Bell was chairman of the Vale for 15 years between 1987 and 2002. Although seen as a controversial figure by many supporters, the club enjoyed its most successful period under the stewardship of himself and manager John Rudge. Promotions, the club`s first Wembley visits and the gradual development of Vale Park were all overseen by Bell. The dismissal of Rudge in 1999, the collapse of ITV digital, the introduction of the Bosman ruling all led to the club`s slide into administration and signalled the demise of Bell`s regime.

Chairman Paul Wildes has confirmed that flags at Vale Park will be lowered to half-mast and there will be a minute`s silence before Saturday`s game with Morecambe.

Our condolences go out to the Bell family and friends.
