Pope Sends Vale Top

Tom Pope's 26th goal of the season ensured Vale leapfrogged Gillingham to go top of League Two. The striker opened the scoring inside five minutes, heading home Doug Loft's cross, before Gills defender Adam Barrett turned into his own net under pressure from debutant Lee Hughes to make it 2-0. Despite Danny Kedwell reducing the deficit almost immediately, Vale hung on for a huge victory to give supporters real hope for the remainder of the campaign.
