Vale boss Micky Adams was fulsome in his praise of wingers Jennison Myrie-Williams and Ashley Vincent after the pair combined to overturn a first half deficit at Home Park yesterday. The duo have been instrumental in the Valiants` impressive start to the campaign and once more linked up effectively to secure a crucial three points after Robbie Williams` first half goal had given the Pilgrims the lead. Despite missing a golden opportunity to equalise immediately following half time, Vincent earned the penalty that resulted in Vale`s equaliser, before Myrie-Williams returned the favour for the former Colchester man to net his second goal in successive games.
Adams was delighted with the victory, especially after his side produced a flat first half display. 'I didn't think we got going first half, we looked a bit tired and lethargic. They had done their homework on us to be fair to them and I thought they were deservedly 1-0 up at half-time. But I knew that we could get better and so it proved. There were no histrionics in the dressing room at half-time, we were nice and calm.
'We wanted to emphasise that we are at our best when we play with a tempo. We wanted to push further on to them so there back four didn't have it easy. I wanted my wide players to be more constructive and get the ball into Tom Pope with a little more quality. Once we do that, we are a threat.'
Vale now face a testing week that will reveal more about the side`s hopes this season. On Tuesday Vale make a first visit to Fleetwood Town, who have begun life in the Football League impressively, before welcoming League Two`s pacesetters Gillingham to the Potteries next Saturday.
