Chesterfield Lead Chase For Richards

Vale face an increasingly difficult task to hold on to captain Marc Richards after it emerged a host of sides are interested in the striker. Chesterfield have emerged as the latest club to express an interest in the 29 year old, with League One sides Preston North End and Shrewsbury Town also said to be in the running. Richards` representatives met with prospective new owner Keith Ryder last week , but there appears a real possibility that Vale`s talisman will head for pastures new. Richards, who has scored nearly 60 goals over the last three seasons, has shown commendable loyalty to the club, turning down a host of moves over recent times, especially during Vale`s spell in administration. Micky Adams will be hoping the prospect of a brighter future under Ryder and an improved deal will be enough to keep his captain at Vale Park, especially as his family is settled in the area. With Anthony Griffith already departed, Adams can ill afford to lose another of his key personnel.
