Adams Favourite For United Job?
Vale fans will be keeping an anxious eye on developments at Bramall Lane after the news that Sky Bet had slashed their odds on Micky Adams becoming the new Blades boss. Following Gary Speed`s move to become the new Wales manager, Adams has been one of a number of candidates link with the United job. However, Adams has been made the odds on favourite to succeed Speed, with the firm now offering odds as short as 10/11 on the Vale boss succeeding the Welshman.
Reports from South Yorkshire suggest that the Blades have identified their number one target, though a deal may not be straight forward to complete. That would appear to rule out current out of work managers such as Phil Brown and Gareth Southgate. However, with United`s current debt believed to be around the £19 million mark, paying compensation for a manager could make a move for the Vale boss unlikely. Doncaster boss Sean O`Driscoll is another manager rumoured to be of interest to the Sheffield United board, but it would surely be much harder to prise him away from his current post.
Vale Assistant Geoff Horsfield told the The Sentinel that Adams wouldn`t be distracted by the reports linking him with a switch away from Vale Park. 'His name was always going to be mentioned in connection with this job, especially as he was born in Sheffield and he's a United fan.
'But Micky gets on with the job and, as he's so professional, he won't get unsettled. He is 100 per cent committed to Vale.'
