Adams Thrilled With Vale Start

Boss Micky Adams was overjoyed after seeing Vale go top of League Two with a 2-0 win over Accrington Stanley. Goals from Marc Richards and Louis Dodds were enough to see the Vale leapfrog Shrewsbury into first place. Despite a nerve wracking second half, which saw Stanley come close to equalising on a few occasions, Adams found time to praise his side`s contribution as well as offering some warm words for the visitors approach. Speaking to Official Site Adams said, 'It's taken a lot of effort from everybody at the club. A football club is nothing without its players - the product on the pitch is the most important thing and that's what I have tried to stress to the Board and everybody when I got here. We have done terrifically well to be where we are and I don't want to put a dampener on it for everybody but it's eight games - that's all it is`.

At times Vale struggled to come to terms with Stanley`s neat approach play, particularly after the interval. Adams admitted that he needed to change things to combat the threat from Accrington. 'Quite clearly they were causing us problems. We needed to get to grips with the midfield if we could and that meant sacrificing Justin, but the substitutes combined - Johnson showed the ability that he had - and Doddsy finished it with great composure. We needed it.`

Vale next face a stiff test at home to a Shrewsbury side that will be looking to reclaim top spot.
